Vosges - Day 5 : Le Petit Ballon 2

The next morning I didn't feel super hungry or thirsty, although I definitely wasn't eating enough. My shoes were frozen again so it took a long time to get going. There was a nearby river so I had enough to drink.

followed the river and passed through someone's private forest, fortunately I wasn't caught. Afterwards I ended up on a paved road. When I reached a higher elevation the snow became deep and loose again and the road hard to follow. I was getting hungry but show everywhere it was difficult to put my stove anywhere. That meant more granola with water. I hoped I would find a store today. Back near the Petit Ballon I went downhill towards Sondernach. There was no ATM there, but I found one in an adjacent village.

Sondernach

got 40 euros and planned to spend it all on food. I bought cheese, a mango, ravioli, oasis lemonade, chocolate, candy, canned fish, a cake, and some figs. After stuffing myself I also got two baguettes and a baguette au raisin. Completely stuffed and packed I went in search for a place to sleep. The first level terrain I passed was graveyard, that didn't seem like a good place. Fortunately, I found my way back to the GR5 route and a good place to pitch my bivy bag. After making camp I heard 'GGRR BBRRRFFF' and noticed an enormous wild hog about 10 meters away. That was pretty cool to see, but a bit unfortunate he had come for my food. I noticed there was a second one and decided to just GRRR back. I went to bed and didn't see them later.
