Winter 2007: Ardennes - 4 days

Bart's and my first hike together, we expected signposted trails but there weren't any. We wandered through the Ardennes for four days until our feet were mush. Read here about hiking without a map and cooking fried rice in orange juice.

Winter 2009: Vosges - 8 days

I went on my first solo winter hike. It was cold and extra tough to walk through the snow. I did survive. Read here about the Gestapo and what 'mix for macaroni' exactly means.

Winter 2009: Black Forest - 6 days

Bart and I went on winter hike in the Black Forest. We made pine needle tea and ate only hardkecks. On Christmas morning we woke up in a big pile of snow in the forest. Read here about frozen shoes and camping among boars.

Summer 2012: Iceland - 26 days
I hiked alone in Iceland. I walked from the south to the north coast, plus some extra. Read here about volcanoes, glaciers, hot springs, and preparing for my first serious hike.

Summer 2013: Corsica - 8 days
A solo hike from which I learned a lot. The conditions varied between burning sun and deep snow. Eventually a lack of experience and appropriate equipment made me quit sooner than planned. It was still a beautiful trip.

Summer 2014: South Greenland - 26 days

A hike on an entire new level. After preparing for several months I hiked alone through Greenland for four weeks. On most days I didn't encounter any sign of civilization. This was the trip where I really started to master long hikes.

Winter 2014: Norway - 6 days

Thus far my winter hikes had been of varying success. By hiking a week near Oslo I wanted to gain more experience without being in much danger. It was a nice trip with interesting encounters. Read here about shooting guns from a sauna and wild camping at -16 °C.

Summer 2015: Norway - 13 days

Again a solo hike, this time in Jotunheimen in Norway. It was a relatively mountainous trip with much rain, but beautiful views. The many huts allowed me to dry my clothes. It was a good trip to gain more experience.

Spring 2016: Scotland - 6 days
My colleagues Nic and Jose wanted to join on a hike, so together with Bart we went to the Cairngorms in Scotland. It was a trip through surprisingly beautiful landscapes. Read here about 'ice frogs' and Nic's blisters.

Summer 2019: West Greenland - 22 days
My most extreme hike yet. After a thorough preparation I set out on a self-sufficient packrafting trip through the fjords on Greenland's west coast. I saw wild musk ox and paddled among whales. Besides a fishing boat I didn't see anyone for almost two weeks.

Summer 2021: Glacier Peak Wilderness, USA - 15 days
My girlfriend Diane and I went hiking in Glacier Peak Wilderness, near Seattle. It was Diane's first serious hike and my first hike in bear country. We saw bears, snakes, and many nice mountain views. We also visited the world's largest nutcracker museum.

Summer 2022: Maroon Bells Wilderness, USA - 11 days
Diane and I went hiking in Maroon Bells Wilderness, near Aspen in Colorado. We climbed several mountain passess and were rewarded with beautiful views. We also went rafting on the Colorado river.

Summer 2023: The Alta Via 1, Dolomites, Italy - 11 days
My friend Koen and hiked the Alta Via 1 trail in the Dolomites in Italy. We climbed many mountains, had beautiful views, and probably the worst weather of the century. The many mountain huts allowed us to pack light and have some well deserved beers.
